Horrible Bosses – Fiction or a Bit of Reality?

Today, I watched Horrible Bosses. In case you don’t know, it’s a movie about three guys who work for bosses that are ruining their lives so bad, they decide to kill them. Three separate bosses at three different jobs. It’s a comedy.

I thought it was really funny, but it also got me thinking. While I’ve never thought of offing anyone, I’ve worked for some bad bosses over the years. Some were mean, one was literally crazy, and a couple were just plain incompetent.

If you’ve been in the workforce long enough, I bet you’ve had a horrible boss or two as well. While the fiction portrayed in the movie takes the various situations to the extreme, there’s always a bit of truth behind it.

The movie reminded me how bad it can be sometimes. Working for a boss that uses you, perhaps verbally abuses you, and treats you more like a number than a human being…it’s bad. It makes your professional life suck, and that suckage spills over into other parts of your life. And that’s not cool.

If your boss really is horrible, you have to get out. Don’t kill your boss (that’s illegal and also unethical), but definitely get out of there. Taking murder out of the equation, you are left with two logical options: Get a new job or work for yourself. Which would you rather do?

Note: I strongly suggest watching the movie, because it’s funny.
